The Bizarre Case of Kimberly Kessler

Joleen Cummings (34), who also goes by the last name Jensen, was reported missing by her mother Ann Johnson on Monday May 14th, 2018. Her 2006 Ford Expedition was also missing.

Joleen was last seen leaving work on Saturday May 12th, 2018 at Tangles Hair Salon in Fernandina Beach, Florida. The last person to see Cummings was her coworker, Jennifer Sybert.

Mother’s Day was Sunday May 13th, which was also Joleen’s birthday. She was supposed to meet her ex-husband at a Winn-Dixie to pick up her three kids — but never showed.

On Tuesday May 16th, deputies found Joleen Cumming’s SUV abandoned at a Home Depot parking lot in Yulee. There was still no sign of Joleen.

Sheriff Leeper of Nassau County held a press release on May 22nd and this is where we learn quite a bit about Jennifer Sybert, Joleen’s coworker and the last person to see her.

Through surveillance, investigators began piecing a puzzle together. Joleen’s vehicle was parked at Home Depot around 1:17 AM, Sunday morning. Several minutes later someone is seen exiting the SUV and walking away.

“We were hoping to see Joleen get out of the vehicle, but who do you think it was? The Tangles hairstylist who last worked with Joleen on Saturday. She went by the name of Jennifer Sybert.”

Sybert and her vehicle, a 2016 Black Kia Soul, were located at a rest area in St. Johns County on Wednesday evening, May 16th, parked between other semi-trucks. She had apparently been living in her car at various locations.

Based upon surveillance video of her driving Joleen’s car, she was arrested for Grand Theft Auto, booked into the St. Johns County Jail and ultimately brought back to the Nassau County Jail.

During this same press conference Sheriff Leeper reveals that they have evidence which lead them to believe Joleen is not alive.

One more revelation, Sybert’s real name is Kimberly Kessler, Date of Birth May 9, 1968 and she is from Butler, Pennsylvania. She had also been using a fake Social Security number.

(This is where it gets crazy, stay with me here.)

Who is Kimberly Kessler?

Kimberly Lee Kessler, aka Jennifer Sybert, was reported missing in 2012 by her mother. However, according to the report made, Kessler was last seen on July 4, 2004 in Butler, Pennsylvania. Basically, her mom waited 8 years to report her missing.

During a press conference Sheriff Leeper released a photo with Kesslers aliases.

She has had 18 aliases and lived in 33 cities across 14 states.

Weird, right?

But wait…there’s more!

After hours of internet sleuthing done by “armchair detectives,” it was discovered that Kessler actually started using aliases and moving state to state long before 2004. More aliases, cities and states were dug up. All of this was confirmed much later when court documents became available to the public.

Has Kessler done this before? Is this her first murder? What was she running from?

Many of Kesslers former friends and boyfriends (even an ex husband) have come forward to tell their stories… and they definitely have some crazy stories!

A few of these screenshots below 👀

On January 17th, 2019 Kessler made her first appearance in court.

On July 2nd, 2019, after reviewing two competency exams a judge found Kessler incompetent to stand trial and ordered her to be committed to a state hospital.

It took the judge nearly three weeks to come to a decision after ordering the exams.

Kessler is currently in the Florida State Hospital.

On JANUARY 9, 2020 at 9:00am a review of Kesslers competency to proceed will be held.

Joleen Jensen remains missing.

  1. Holy shit. A whole new level of crazy listening to those phone calls. Her mom couldn’t wait to get off the phone with her.

  2. I dont understand how anyone on day 56 + of a hunger strike can smear feces on her window after 56 days + the only thing in her butt is cobwebs.

  3. Update on this: as of 12/09/2021 Kessler was found guilty of first degree murder in Cummings’ death and is awaiting sentencing at a hearing at the end of this month, facing life in prison.

  4. This so frustrating for me. I do believe insanity is real and a possible and true claim in a crime. So, I think there is evidence this woman is mentally deranged, dangerous and should go to a mental hospital for the criminally insane. But if she was insane, is she then set free if she is allowed out of the mental hospital ? IF insanity caused her to kill, then she should be, by the law, be found not guilty by reason of insanity. But still go to a mental hospital because insanity is her mental state – unsafe for herself and unsafe for others. The insanity plea has been around a LONG time, it’s a legal defense. Very few who claim it are acquitted though. It’s a moral and legal question in my mind. Most of all, I feel very sorry for Joleen’s family, they will suffer far worse than the murderer does in jail. I so hope her remains will be found, to give her loving family some peace. RIP
