Caleb Harris – vanished after ordering UberEats

Caleb Harris (21) has been missing since March 4, 2024 from Corpus Christi, Texas. Caleb was a student at  Texas A&M.

Caleb’s father is Randall Harris and his mother is Becky Harris.

Caleb was 2.5 years into an Environmental Science Degree.  He was planning to get his Kayak Guide license and was planning to go to Alaska to work in the coming summer.

Caleb’s father Randy has said that he wasn’t in a relationship and that he was focused on school and his hobbies.

This is a timeline of the case to date:

We know that on Sunday March 3, Caleb played video games with two of his roommates and a friend.  Caleb lived in an off-campus apartment at The Cottages on Ennis Joslin Road.

Some info about The Cottages:

Caleb had known his roommates since the first and fourth grade.

The group played for more than an hour with another friend who lives in Colorado.

At 10pm, Caleb sent a Snapchat video to a friend, showing a tackle box.

At 11.53pm, Caleb sent a picture of the dog of a roommate to his mother and his uncle.

At 12.56am on Monday March 4, Caleb was captured on the Ring doorbell camera of a nearby apartment.  Caleb, his friend and one of his roommates could be seen playing with a puppy that belonged to the girlfriend of Caleb’s roommate.

According to Corpus Christi Police, “nothing appeared out of the ordinary.”

Caleb and the two males then returned to their apartment.

“Roommate got a new dog, and so, from 10 [p.m.] on, they were playing with the dog. We do have some video of them playing with the dog,” Caleb’s father, Randy Harris said.

At 2.20am. Caleb’s roommate told him that he was going to bed.  Caleb told the roommate that he was going to ‘order snacks via UberEats for his school lunch’ for later that day.  The roommate said that Caleb was preparing fishing reels for a planned trip before going to bed.

Caleb ordered two lunchables and a red bull through UberEats at around 2.20am.  There is some chatter online about the time he ordered this but it seems to have been around then,

At 2.44am, Caleb sent a Snapchat video to his younger sister.   The video showed Caleb walking the puppy through his apartment complex parking lot.

He returned to the apartment at around 2.58am and dropped the dog off.   It is believed that he was not wearing shoes at this point.

At 3.03am, Caleb sent another Snapchat to a friend in San Antonio.  That photo showed “a small bridge over a drainage ditch on the 1900 block of Ennis Joslin, within a few hundred feet of the entrance to his apartment complex.”

Some reports say that Caleb’s phone last shared its location data with the nearest cell phone tower at 3.12am. But Assistant Chief Green has said “We dont believe the 3:12 am ping is accurate.  We are sharing all data with out partners; the FBI and the U.S. Marshals.”

It is believed that Caleb’s phone died or was turned off by this point.

At 3.20am, the UberEats driver delivered Caleb’s order to his apartment and it was left outside the door, as Caleb had requested.

Around 11am, 8 hours after Caleb’s last communications, one of his roommates found the UberEats order, still at the front door.  Caleb’s truck was parked in front of the apartment.  His wallets and keys were still in the apartment but his phone was missing.   His roommates called police to report that Caleb was missing.

“Caleb’s roommates, who described him as a homebody and a creature of habit, immediately became alarmed by Caleb’s absence. After searching for Caleb alone for a short time, the roommates called the CCPD to report Harris missing,” the CCPD said in a statement on social media.

Police said there was no signs of a struggle or any evidence that there had been a hit-and-run in the area surrounding the apartment.  When they searched Caleb’s apartment, they said there was no signs of any violence or any signs that the apartment had been deep cleaned.

Guns that belonged to Caleb were found in the apartment.  These were turned over to police, along with his laptop.

Police investigated Caleb’s roommates and have described them as ‘extremely cooperative’.

The UberEats driver was a 31 year old female and she was also interviewed.  She told police that she had been driving alone that night and that she did not see Caleb or anyone else near the apartment complex.  Detectives corroborated her account with CCTV from the store where she got Caleb’s order.

As some more information about the investigation:

More than 50 businesses and private residences were checked for video.

Video was retrieved from 27 different locations, including city owned traffic cameras. Investigators continue to search for additional sources.

Detectives have written 16 search electronic search warrants, submitted over 70 preservation requests, and issued 14 subpoenas for electronic data related to this investigation.

Forensic Computer Examiners have already reviewed over 600 GB of electronic data and continue to pour over data as it arrives on an almost daily basis.

Dive teams also searched nearby creeks in the days after Caleb vanished.

On March 28, Assistant Chief Green gave an update on the case.

“Unfortunately we can’t tell the public everything we know in this investigation, it doesn’t work that way,” Green said. “We’re not able to be completely transparent and share everything we know, but we can very confidently say we have ruled out the roommates as having anything to do with this disappearance. Hs friends that he was communicating with that night over social media, we’ve ruled them out. We’ve ruled out the Uber driver that made the delivery.

“We have investigated very thoroughly all of those individuals, we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t look at that possibility that they could have been involved, but we’ve done that, and we’ve put a lot of work into initially and we’ve crossed them off the list. so, our next step is to continue forward and see what exactly happened to Caleb.”

“He kind of vanished,” Randy has said. “There’s no evidence of wrongdoing, but there’s no evidence at all. And so it’s a matter of looking at every inch, everything we could possibly think of…It is a mystery.”

On April 1, Caleb’s family doubled the reward money from $25,000 to $50,000 leading to information on his safe return home. The family initially had the reward money at $25,000 with a deadline of March 31st.
