American mother of three, Lindsay Shiver has been arrested in the Bahamas. She is accused of conspiring to kill her husband, former Auburn football player Robert Shiver.
As a bit of background, Robert attended and played football for the Auburn University Tigers. He was a long snapper from 2006 to 2009. Going undrafted in the 2009 NFL draft, Robert was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent. However, his career in the NFL didn’t quite take off as he was cut by the Falcons before the season even started.
Robert met Lindsay Shirly, in 2007 at Auburn University during a fitness class. Lindsay was Miss Houston County in 2005 and finished second in the National Peanut Festival pageant.
The couple got married and have three kids together. In 2020, Lindsay wrote this post on social media (her accounts have now been removed).
“So thankful for that fitness class 13 years ago that brought us together and all of the love, laughter, and life we have created ever since! I love you, babe. Cheers to many more.”
Robert is the executive vice president of Senior Life Insurance Company. The family seem affluent – they own a $2.5 mansion in Thomasville, Georgia, a vacation home in the Bahamas and have a private jet.
Robert is the son of Allen Shiver, the retired CEO of Flowers Foods, a billion-dollar baking company.
he couple had been having marital issues and Robert filed for divorce on April 5, 2023. Robert said Lindsay’s “adulterous conduct” was a reason for divorce, saying the marriage is irrevocably broken, according to the filings viewed by CNN. Robert filed for sole custody of the couple’s three children and asked for sole use of the mansion.
He also asked the court to dismiss any claims for alimony, saying Lindsay was fully capable of taking care of herself.
Robert hired a PI in the Bahamas to track Lindsay and her movements in the hope of proving her adultery. The PI found Lindsay and her lover, 28-year-old barman Terrance Adrien Bethel, at Grabbers Bar and Grill — and sarcastically thanked him for confirming his suspicions.
“Thanks for taking care of my wife,” Robert told Terrance after the pictures — expected to play a pivotal role in their divorce proceeding — were secured.
Sources said the investigator took snaps of the pair in several different locations — including the Nassau, Bahamas, airport.
Lindsay filed for divorce herself on April 6, 2023. Her filing says she has “incurred debt beyond her means to pay,” and asks that her husband be made to pay.
She also said that Robert had subjected her to “physical and mental cruel treatment.”
In her filing, her lawyer states: “Wife feels unsafe in the marital home and has installed locks on the interior doors of the home for protection. Husband has abused the Wife in the home in the children’s presence on multiple occasions, not only physically but also mentally and emotionally.”
Lindsay also denied that she had been adulterous. Her filing claims that any “extramarital relationship defendant has had was during the parties’ separation and legally condoned by [the] husband.”
“Suddenly husband is not permitting wife to use the jet or have access to funds,” her lawyer wrote.
Lindsay claimed that in one instance, the husband used the jet to take their children for a weekend getaway without her, and refused to return with them until she called the police.
Lindsay asked the court to grant her sole ownership of their home and custody of their children, while also requesting a restraining order from Robert.
She also requested alimony payments and for the court to divide their assets evenly, including their bank and retirement accounts, cars, the boat, jet, businesses, other financial holdings and even furniture.
I believe the couple were still living together as of July 2023. The police were called to their home that month, as the family was preparing to fly to the Bahamas for vacation.
Lindsay told police that Robert had pushed her. He denied doing so. A lot of the incident has been captured on body cam footage.
“Living in the same house. Hell on earth as you can imagine. He just got super aggressive and that’s when I called immediately ’cause he’s been physical before and I am just not doing that,” she tells police, according to footage captured of the incident.
“Are you just wanting to leave or is he supposed to be going with you?” an officer asks her.
“Yeah, we are supposed to be going with our kids,” she replies.
Robert told police at the time he didn’t want Lindsay to board their private plane for the flight. In the footage, he claims she was planning to meet with her lover.
In the footage, police can be heard discussing the Shiver’s weird situation.
“Why are you filed for divorce, and you are going to go on vacation together? I mean that’s not something we can work out,” the cop says.
The couple and their children ended up going to the Bahamas but it seems they were vacationing separately.
“Robert was vacationing independently of his estranged wife when cops contacted him to warn him about the plot. He was left ‘in fear of his life’ and flew back to the US with their kids shortly afterwards.”
There must have been a robbery at Grabber’s Bar, where Terrance worked. They searched his phone and found alleged texts between him, Lindsay and a man named Faron Newbold. The trio had apparently put together a plan to kill Robert. Lindsay is said to have paid Faron to act as a hitman.
“On July 16, 2023 at Abaco, while being together did, with a common purpose agree to commit an offense, namely the murder of Richard Shiver,” said the police report.
All three were taken to jail in the Bahamas.
Robert spoke to the media after Lindsay was arrested. “My kids don’t know the whole thing yet. I’m going to try to tell them in the next day or so,” he told The Post. “They’re young.”
Lindsay was granted bail of $100,000 on August 9. This happened after Robert did not object to her bail application.
She will be outfitted with an electronic monitoring device and must comply with an 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.
Lindsay must report to the Cable Beach Police Station in Nassau three times per week. She must also not come within 100 feet of her husband, as part of her bail conditions. She will not be able to leave the Bahamas until she appears in court again. She and the other two men have to surrender their passports and travel documents.
She is due in court again on October 5. The three suspects could face 30 and 60 years behind bars if convicted.
On August 11, Lindsay spoke to the media.
“It’s been really tough,” This info is from the NY Post:
Wearing a white Nike hat, gray hoodie and black exercise pants — and with her ankle monitoring tag clearly on display— Shiver nodded affirmatively when asked if she feels the case against her has been overblown.
“I really can’t say too much right now,” she saw calmly, noting that she had been advised to remain mum by her attorneys as the case progresses. “It’s been hard. But I can’t speak about it.”
Also carrying a manila envelope, Lindsay arrived at the precinct in the upscale Cable Beach neighborhood in a rented Kia sedan she’ll use to travel locally.
“Now I’m having issues with my car,” she said exasperatedly. “I have to deal with that now on top of everything else. But I really can’t say anything more. I’m sorry. Thank you for being respectful.
Despite denying that he was adulterous, on August 17, photos of Robert and a blonde in the Bahamas were made public.
Lindsay sent these pics allegedly to the hitman. They were taken just hours after the family arrived in the Bahamas in mid July.
