The last person to see missing woman Mamta Kafle Bhatt was her husband

Mamta Kafle Bhatt is a 28 year old mother to baby Neema, and pediatric nurse, who was last seen in public on July 31, 2024.  Her husband Naresh allegedly waited days to report her missing.

What we know so far is that:

Mamta moved to the United States from Nepal in 2021.

You can see Mamta’s Facebook here:

Mamta was scheduled to work two shifts a week at Inova – a medical facility in Virginia.  Mamta never showed up for her shift on August 1.

Mamta was very active on social media up until she disappeared.  She made lots of TikToks and FB posts, mainly about her 10 month old daughter.

At some point earlier this year, Mamta joined a Facebook group for single mothers.  She was looking for help in separating from Naresh as she was going against her culture by leaving him.

She made this post in February 2024.

On August 15, the Manassas Park Police Department issued a press release.

They outlined a timeline of her disappearance.

On Saturday July 27, 2024, Mamta was last seen at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center.

A friend spoke to Mamta on Sunday July 29.

According to the Washington Post, Mamta called her family in Nepal on July 30.

Media reports say that she spoke with her mother almost every day.

On July 31, Mamta was last seen by Naresh.  He said they ate dinner together.

In the press release, police said her husband, friends and coworkers had all been cooperative in the case to date.

FOX 5 spoke to Naresh who said these past two weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster.

“I’m really tired. Tired, exhausted – physically, mentally, economically. I’m suffering,” he said. “I’m suffering a lot.”

“Wherever she is we both waiting for her. We both love her. We just waiting each minute each second. I need my wife back. She need her mom. We need our family back as a normal.”

Naresh has also told the media that Mamta has left on previous occasions ‘for a few days.’

August 20 marked Neema’s first birthday and still no sign of Mamta.

Mamta’s friends made social media posts to mark the occasion.  “Happy Birthday to you, sweet baby Neema! You have so many people who love you and will not forget you on your special day,” Close friend and former roommate Nadia Navarro wrote. “We are planning to bring gifts and cake later today to celebrate with you. Mamta celebrated every birth month and enjoyed taking pictures of you, so we will continue this tradition for her today in her absence.”

Madan Uprety, executive president of the Nepali American Community Center said that he has been to Mamta’s home and has watched Naresh care for Neema.  “She is safe,” he said.

“It’s taking too long. Why are they not being proactive? Why are they not searching? A lot of people are angry with her husband too,” Madan also said.

Her family are working from Nepal to try to get visas to travel to search for her.

“We are so much worried now,” her brother said. “We cannot do anything from here. We just can hope that the police and the investigators will investigate properly and we get our sister back soon.”

Manassas Park Mayor Rishell said the city won’t engage in speculation or rumors as the investigation continues.

“The Manassas Park Police Department is doing everything it can to locate Mamta Kafle Bhatt. I have complete confidence in our police department and in Chief Lugo,” she said in an email this week. “We are all heartbroken that she is missing. And we are not engaging in speculation or guesswork of any kind. We are giving space and time to our PD for proper police procedures to play out. If there are any updates or new information that can be released to the public concerning this search, they will be shared immediately.”

The mayor continued, “This process honors Mamta. In any investigation, there are details not shared because that could compromise the investigation. I can assure you that this will not be allowed to happen in this investigation. We are praying for Mamta, her family and community.”

Not surprisingly, Naresh has been arrested in connection to Mamta’s death. He was arrested on August 22, 2024 and charged with concealment of a dead body.

“The amount of blood in that master bedroom and bathroom is indicative of injuries that are not survivable,” Prince William County prosecutor Sarah Sami told the court following his arrest. “Every indication in this case is that Mamta is no longer alive. And the commonwealth can pursue a homicide charge without a body.”

Prior to his arrest, Naresh had sold his Tesla and had started the process of selling the house he owned with Mamta. When he was arrested, police found passports for both Naresh and Neema in the home.

A prosecutor went into more information in court. We learned that Mamta stopped using her phone on July 29. The next time the phone connected to the network was Aug. 1, when the cell was located “in Loudoun County near a body of water,” Sami said.

This information is from the Washington Post:

When police executed a search warrant last week, they used BlueStar technology to locate minute blood traces invisible to the naked eye. Blood traces were found in the master bedroom, Sami said, and investigators determined “something was dragged” from the bedroom to the bathroom.

There they discovered a “significant amount of blood” traces splattered on the wall and covering the entire floor of the shower, the prosecutor said. “The crime scene investigator on the scene indicated she had never seen that much blood.”

Sami added that when police served the search warrant, cleaning supplies were out in the bedroom, including an empty bottle of carpet cleaner Naresh Bhatt had purchased on July 31.

Months before Mamta disappeared, Naresh googled “How long does it take to get married after spouse dies.”.

This is a developing story and this blog will be updated as information comes to hand.
