Did fraudster Ryan Roth fake his own death in Bali?

Many people believe that British national Ryan Flynn, also known as Ryan Roth, may be alive after faking his death in Bali in January 2020.

As some background into Ryan, he was born in Southampton, England in 1980. He left the UK to live in America and changed his name from Ryan Flynn to Ryan Roth.

Ryan’s personal website states he ‘started traveling the world at 21’ and has lived in London, Paris, Tokyo, Bangkok, Sydney, Auckland and Los Angeles.

Ryan’s website also describes himself as ‘entrepreneurial from an early age’ and as having ‘achieved success in a number of different professions; Writer, Tennis Coach, Sponsorship Director, Event Planner, Art Consultant, Investment Advisor, Curator and Film Festival Board Member.’

You can see Ryan’s website here.

On LinkedIn, Ryan claimed that he attended the University of Southampton and studied Psychology and Law but did not complete his degree. ‘After doing two years of Psychology and two years of Law I left university with the option to complete,’ he wrote.

A press officer for Southampton University told the media they could not find any record of Ryan ever studying there.

Ryan has been accused of scamming thousands of dollars from people, including his grandmother.  Ryan’s uncle Sean Flynn said that Ryan is a ‘serial fraudster living his life on other people’s money’.

An ex-girlfriend of Ryan’s, named Karen Jin Beck, spoke to the media and said that he made some ‘bad decisions’ which included scamming people, and she was forced to transfer months of outstanding rent money to one of his flatmates.  She said they dated from 2009-2012 and broke up because Ryan had overstayed his visa by two years.  ‘We had to break up because I did not know it was illegal to harbor an immigrant. Ryan had overstayed by two years and I did not want to move out of the country with Ryan.’

It is alleged that Ryan took around £20,000 from his grandmother – she has since passed away.

She wrote this letter to Ryan, outlining the stress he had put her under.

Ryan’s uncle Sean said ‘As a child Ryan always believed he was the smartest in the room, especially at Christmas family gatherings.’

‘He was going to be a professional tennis player because of all the glamour associated with it, then a marine biologist. He went to America to become an actor and went by the name Ryan Roth as he thought he had a better chance as Roth is a common name for actors…

‘He didn’t contact his late mother for seven years until he wanted money, she never had any as she was poor and would try to borrow money for him as she believed he was starving.

‘He borrowed a lot of money from his aunt, she didn’t say how much but knows she won’t get it back.’

Sean also said that Ryan tried to scam people by setting up charities and then dissolving them.

Data logged by the Government’s Companies House obtained by MailOnline shows that the company ‘Our Planet UK’ was set up in 2008 under the name Ryan Flynn, before it was closed down just a year later.

Another company ‘Living Legends Ltd’ was established in 2006, before being dissolved three years later in 2009. The director’s name is given as ‘Ryan Flynn’.

Ryan’s LinkedIn page stated that he is the founder and CEO of KaBu & Co., a company which he describes as ‘one of the most ethical coffee supply chains in the word’ and connects ‘farmers to buyers, which reduces the cost to buyers and increases smallholder farmer income.’

A message on KaBu & Co.’s website states that the company is no longer in operation as of January 31, 2020.

By January 2020, Ryan had made it to Bali, Indonesia.  On January 20, Ryan’s motorbike, belongings and an apparent suicide note were found at the edge of a cliff in Uluwatu in Bali.

The note was addressed to an Alice and it read ‘I’m sorry Alice. I’m the man you fell in love with but past things I never did maybe you feel I was a stranger. I’ll always love you. None of this is your fault. Your oldman xx.’

The cliff is said to be around 500 feet high.

Police investigated and discovered that Alice Yu was an ex-girlfriend of Ryan’s who lived in Hong Kong.  When police spoke to her, she told them that she had no recent problems with Ryan.

A search of the area was conducted.  Hari Adi Purnomo, head of the Denpasar search team, said: ‘We went through all the procedures, but we didn’t find either the victim or signs of a fall of anyone around the cliff.’

“We haven’t confirmed whether he fell, suicide, or leave the location safe,” South Kuta Police Chief Yusak Agustinus Sooai said.

According to the Seminyak Times, searches were called off after officers were unable to locate a body or signs that someone had fallen from the cliff edge.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British man missing in Bali, and are in contact with the Indonesian police who are carrying out the search.’

After Ryan’s disappearance, it emerged that police in Australia wanted to speak to him about a 2008 fraud incident.  NSW Police made a statement:

‘Following a 2008 online fraud report allegedly involving a then aged 27-year-old man, officers from Sydney City Police Area Command conducted an investigation.

‘Investigators are yet to formally speak to the man who left the country.’

As of November 2024, Ryan is still missing.

There is much online speculation about where he could be.  There is even a website dedicated to him called AScamADay.com

  1. Manipulation seems to be a common denominator with people who commit fraud. Hopefully, it won’t work in the end for Mr. Roth.

I have been a victim of a fraudster. This person sex trafficked all of my kids. When I complained, she had me hacked, stalked and assaulted. The fraudster also used her connections to have me prosecuted.

There is no one to complain to. Even the State Bar will not act.

The perpetrator also engaged in real estate fraud and had another man charged.

Valerie Houghton misappropriated about $10,000,000 from Clyde Berg. two weeks after Mr. Berg demanded an accounting of the missing funds, D.A. Rosen filed criminal charges against him. The D.A. accused Berg of raping a pregnant woman with a golf putter. He was then jailed for 8 days and forced to wear an ankle monitor.

Then after spending $3,000,000 in legal fees during a 3 year year prosecution, Mr. Berg was found factually innocent.

After spending more than 3 million dollars defending himself, the man was found factually innocent.

Ms. Houghton was eventually charges with the crime of embezzlement But after 4 years of her prosecution, Mr. Rosen filed a motion to dismiss. It was stated in the motion that he had enough evidence to secure a conviction at trial. It should also be noted that the dismissal filing came at a time when Mr. Rosen was receiving reports that Ms. Houghton was engaged in the sex trafficking of minors and physically assaulting parents. He just didn’t care what message a dismissal would send to her.

Mr. Rosen has weaponized the D.A.’s Office to serve his needs and the needs of people who are associated with him. In the process, he has neglected the needs of public.

In the end, Ms. Houghton was sued by Mr. Berg. She ended up returning his money.
