On the 23rd of January it is believed Michael Ireland killed his wife, three small children and then himself. It is rumoured that he also killed the family dog.
VANCEBORO, Craven County — A death investigation is taking place at a Craven County home.
Deputies were called to a home in the area of Kinsaw Court on Friday afternoon.
The Craven County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was also at the house Friday.
Craven County Sheriff Hughes confirms for NewsChannel 12 the deceased are Michael Jay Ireland, his wife April, and three children, ages 8 months, 3 and 4.
The Sheriff’s Office says this is an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community.
As for questions surrounding the investigation, Sheriff Hughes says he will release further information to the public on Monday when autopsies are complete, and he has all the facts.

VANCEBORO, Craven County — The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal wreck on Highway 118 in Vanceboro.
Trooper Magana says two white pick-up trucks were involved in a head-on collision on Friday afternoon, and one person died in the wreck.
Michael’s father died on “January 21 after a short battle with cancer”, this is what the family believe was the trigger.

Deputies saw a body through a partially opened curtain and forced their way inside the home.
They found the body of Michael Ireland, 39, in the master bedroom with a gunshot to the head and a revolver found beside the body. The family dog was also discovered in the same bedroom.
The bodies of 26-year-old April Ireland and eight-month-old Caroline were on a living room couch.
Michael, 4, and Bryson, 3, were on another couch in the living room. All had a single gunshot wound.
